Founded in 1958 in the Emet district of Kütahya, the Emet Boron Enterprise (Emet Bor İşletme Müdürlüğü) produces the colemanite mineral in 2 open pits located in Hisarcık and Espey. The Hisarcık-Espey formation, which is the largest and the most significant colemanite reserve in the world, contains nearly 40% of the world’ reserves and 55% of Turkey’s reserves. With its integrated facilities in boron production, the enterprise is fed with concentrators for the physical enrichment of the colemanite mineral mined from open pits. The concentrated colemanite produced here is ground in the mills and turned into ground goods. Then, it is turned into boric acid, which is of great importance in the sector, following the processes of reaction, filtration, crystallization, and exsiccation. Boric acid plays an essential role in the treatment of the eyes, ears, and skin along with the production of pesticides, fiberglass, LCD screens, Plexiglas, and fire resistant clothes.
As a result of the investments which were carried out in order to increase the production of boron products at the Emet Boron Enterprise in line with the demands of customers, the first boric acid facilities were put into operation in 2005, the second boric acid facilities in 2011, and the multipurpose boric acid facilities, where exclusive goods are produced, in 2015. Thus, the boric acid production capacity per year was increased to 290,000 tons, meeting demands to a great extent. On an area of 1,638 hectares with around 1,500 employees who are experts in their field, mining (of boron and boron-based products), chemistry and logistics operations are conducted with the latest technologies in line with international quality standards. High-quality and sustainable products with high added value are continuously produced with an innovation-based production plan.
As one of the most important facilities of Eti Maden, Turkey’s rising star, the Emet Boron Enterprise (Emet Bor İşletme Müdürlüğü) carries out significant projects and activities in accordance with quality, environment, energy, occupational health, and safety management systems, as well as accredited laboratory certificates and obligatory environmental permits. Producing efficient, profitable and sustainable boron and boron-based products in line with global standards and using advanced technologies, the Emet Boron Enterprise prioritizes environmental consciousness and demonstrates a high awareness for protecting nature and natural life through the forestation projects around the current pits.
At the Emet Boron Enterprise, which has the largest colemanite reserves in the world, boric acid, concentrated colemanite, and Eticol-Ceramic products are produced. While some of these products are processed within the Emet enterprise, the rest are sent to the Bandırma Boron and Acid Factories Enterprise in Balıkesir, which has become Turkey’s logistic headquarters for boron and boron-based products.
